The Ghanaian project, Serendipalm, illustrates that the production of palm oil does not have to lead to ecological and social disasters. It has been producing fair-trade organic palm oil since 2008 and proves that cultivation by small farmers and processing in small and medium-sized enterprises can make an excellent contribution to sustainable rural development.

Serendipalm's Managing Directors Safianu Moro and Gero Leson (Dr. Bronner's) report on the vision and implementation of fair and "regenerative" palm oil production. Examples include the increasing cultivation of oil palms in mixed agroforestry systems, the use of organic waste as mulch, manual labour in palm oil production, under fair conditions, social projects such as the construction of Montessori schools and kindergartens, the collection and recycling of plastic waste, and product diversification through cocoa and manjok. Conclusion: it's not the fruit that's the problem; it's how you grow it.
