About Rapunzel
Global Commitment:
We All Live in One World
Global Commitment
Globalization seems to have made the world smaller. At the same time, the demands for space and the fear of losing vital resources are growing. Many people therefore perceive globalization as a worldwide, more or less openly conducted cut-throat competition at all societal levels.
There is, however, a different way. Globalization can also have positive effects. Global communication networks, traffic and trade routes open up possibilities for more and more people around the world to participate in global knowledge and prosperity. The central question therefore is HOW globalization is implemented.
Organic Agriculture and Supplier Management
Organic Agriculture - Gentle to Soil, Plants, Animals and People
Rapunzel works with 100 % certified organic products. With organic agriculture we can produce healthy, high-quality foods without residues or contaminants: Moreover, for us, organic agriculture is a way protect nature and natural resources.
Controlled Organic Cultivation Stands for:
Protecting and enhancing soil fertility
Acting prophylactically in order to prevent diseases or exorbitant pest infestation
Using closed nutrient loops where possible
Natural animal husbandry and feeding
Protecting natural resources, soil, water and air
Actively protecting the environment, nature and biodiversity
Preserving biodiversity
Rejecting genetically manipulated organisms
Conserving energy and using renewable resources
Securing agricultural jobs

Supplier Management - Long-term and Reliable Cooperation
With many suppliers Rapunzel has been cooperating reliably for many years. It is crucial for Rapunzel that our suppliers share the same high quality standards and Rapunzel’s corporate values and goals. The basis for the cooperation are our supplier specifications.
Long-standing cooperation establishes trust and transparency on both sides. Transparency is developed through mutual visits and structured audits. If requirements are not fulfilled, the supplier relationship may be terminated.
Structured, annual supplier evaluations facilitate the continuous development of the supplier cooperation. Every two years, Rapunzel awards a „Supplier Award“ for suppliers of raw materials and traded commodities. Particularly outstanding performance is honored with the “Special Award”
One World Award
Rapunzel Supports Future Makers
Rapunzel is represented around the world. Our raw materials are procured in nearly 40 countries. Rapunzel products are exported to as many countries. This international contact is the reason why company founder and Managing Director Joseph Wilhelm occupies himself intensively with the topic of globalization.
Inspired by this experience and the success of the HAND IN HAND fair trade program, Joseph Wilhelm and Rapunzel initiated the international “One World Award” (OWA) in 2008. The underlying thought of the award is the notion: we all live in one world.
With IFOAM, the International Federation of the worldwide Organic Farming Movement, Rapunzel found an ideal partner. Coordinator and Chairman of the OWA jury is Berward Geier, former Managing Director of IFOAM for 18 years.
Selection Process and Award Ceremony
Based on the information from the OWA application, visit reports and the interviews with the nominees, the international OWA jury selects the OWA laureate from five finalists.
Every finalist receives an OWA certificate and a cash amount of 2,000 Euro. The OWA laureate receives a bronze OWA statue and 25,000 Euro prize money.
Goals of the One World Award
Support
for globalization projects where the focus lies not exclusively on the maximization of profits but instead on the three pillars of sustainability: ecology, social aspects and economy.
Recognition
of outstanding efforts and creative projects that promote the organic idea.
Encouragement
for people who work for a future worth living and a peaceful society.

The Laureates
The One World Award (OWA) honors people, projects and innovative ideas who give globalization a positive dimension and make the world better and more equitable.
Eligible are especially those ideas and projects that are based on the three pillars of sustainability: ecology, economy and social aspects. In addition to the “One World Award”, Rapunzel also presents the „Lifetime Achievement Award“ which honors prominent pioneers and outstanding persons who have worked throughout their live for the advancement and support of the organic movement.
