FAQ
Organic quality since 1974
No free rein for genetic engineering – Let us protect organic together!
The new genetic engineering threatens organic farming and our livelihoods. Together with strong partners such as Demeter, Rapunzel Naturkost is committed to the strict regulation and labelling of genetically modified organisms. Now we need your support to set an example: For a future without genetic engineering!
Together for transparency: your vote still counts
Together with more than 30 associations and organic companies, we at Rapunzel say
thank you!
Over 60,000 citizens have already campaigned for the clear labelling of genetically modified food – a strong signal for transparency, freedom of choice and the protection of our natural resources.
But our mission is not over yet. The decision on mandatory labelling is now in the hands of the members of the EU Parliament.
We still need your support
so that they can really hear and understand our voices.
Every vote counts – including yours!
Contact MEPs directly via our new e-mailing tool, personally, effectively and with just a few clicks. Together we can make the difference!
For a GMO-free future – transparent, sustainable and fair.
No GMOs through the back door
You can do that!
Write to MEPs now – for freedom of choice and transparency!
With just a few clicks, you can actively campaign for GMO-free agriculture: Use our e-mailing tool to send a personalised message directly to the MEP of your choice – quickly, easily and effectively.
This is how you show that the planned deregulation of new genetic engineering must not come through the back door!
We still need
labelling, risk assessment and traceability
– for real freedom of choice when shopping, for the protection of organic products and for fair farming.
The more people get involved now, the greater our collective influence will be.
Take part
– your vote counts!
Over 60,000 votes in favour of transparency – but there is no debate
We were there to hand over your signatures – over 60,000 votes in favour of transparency, security and freedom of choice.
But EPP Group Chairman Manfred Weber, of all people, a key political decision-maker in the EU Parliament, stayed away from the vote. No statement, no exchange – a silence that leaves many supporters of the “No free rein for genetic engineering” initiative irritated and disappointed.
Nothing less than the future of our food is at stake.
A current draft law by the EU Commission on the deregulation of new genetic engineering (NGT) could result in genetically modified plants being cultivated and traded in Europe without clear labelling, independent risk assessment and traceability.
The potential effects are far-reaching:
the organic sector, farms and GMO-free companies in particular are facing existential threats. Without mandatory labelling, consumers lose their freedom of choice – a cornerstone of a responsible society and a functioning democracy.
“We need freedom of choice – also in the future,”
emphasises Seraphine Wilhelm, Managing Director of Rapunzel Naturkost.
The message is clear:
we demand transparency, scientifically based safety tests and the right to decide for ourselves what ends up on our plates.
Now is the time to show your colours – for GMO-free agriculture and real democracy in Europe.

Hence this campaign!
The EU Commission is planning to deregulate genetically modified plants:
No safety checks
No labeling
No protection against contamination
No liability rules
If this is enforced, genetically modified plants could be released into the environment in an uncontrolled manner.
Without clear labelling, we all lose our freedom of choice – as consumers, farmers and organic companies.

Our position
Organic is and remains GMO-free!
For Rapunzel, sustainability means respecting and protecting nature. That is why we reject genetically modified organisms – in both old and new processes. Organic farming is based on natural cycles and the independence of plants and animals. Genetic engineering does not fit into this philosophy. We demand:
Strict risk assessments
Consistent labelling
Mandatory verification procedures
No patents on life!
These plants have not yet been authorised for the EU.
This is the only way that organic farming will remain a role model for fair and sustainable agriculture in the future.

More about the new genetic engineering
New genetic engineering (NGT) specifically modifies the DNA of plants or organisms. But there are risks here too: Undesirable effects on ecosystems, plants and our health are possible. In future, NGT plants are to be released in the EU without authorisation and labelling. This is not compatible with organic farming methods.

"Rapunzel Naturkost has lived and still lives by offering its customers the best organic food quality without genetic engineering. We demand the regulation and labelling of new genetic engineering in food and its traceability through the entire supply chain. For a future without genetic engineering – your vote counts! Support the campaign and stand up for organic farming. Together we can make the difference."
Leonhard Wilhelm, Managing Director of Rapunzel
Further insights into the campaign
During the Rapunzel One World Festival in September 2024 alone, over 2,000 people took part in the “No free rein for genetic engineering” campaign. Now all that is missing is you!
